Soaring for a Cause: Giving Back with Plane Rides for Charity
On Saturday, July 19th, I had the honor of hosting Plane Rides for Charity at the Aiken Municipal Airport—an event that truly embodied my passion for aviation and giving back.
Through the Mantei Charitable Fund, I’ve dedicated much of my life to supporting the communities I love, and this fundraiser was a perfect example of that mission in action. Families, veterans, and aviation enthusiasts joined me for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take flight in vintage WWII aircraft, including my PT-17 Stearman and PT-26 Fairchild. These historic planes once trained legendary pilots such as the Tuskegee Airmen and Women Airforce Service Pilots (WAFs), and seeing them in the air again was both nostalgic and inspiring.
Every single dollar raised went directly to four outstanding local nonprofits that are making a real impact in Aiken County:
Sharing the history of these aircraft while offering a flight experience that many guests will never forget was deeply rewarding. As one of our pilots said, “This airplane trained heroes—now it’s being used to honor and help new heroes in our own communities.” That’s exactly why I do what I do.
I want to thank everyone who came out, donated, volunteered, or simply helped spread the word. Your support makes it possible for me to continue hosting events like this.
If you missed this one, don’t worry—we’re already planning the next Plane Rides for Charity in October. I hope you’ll join me in the skies.
