Standing Up for a Fellow Veteran: Rick Mantei and Gary McCracken Meet Congressman Joe Wilson
Rick Mantei recently accompanied Vietnam-era veteran Gary McCracken to meet Congressman Joe Wilson, continuing their ongoing effort to secure the VA benefits Gary has long been denied.
Gary was medically discharged in 1970 following a serious head injury he sustained during service. For decades, he’s battled not only the lasting physical and emotional effects of that trauma but also the challenge of gaining recognition for the PTSD and related medical conditions that resulted.
Rick has been by Gary’s side—arranging a private medical evaluation that confirmed Gary’s PTSD diagnosis and working with organizations including the VA, VFW, and American Legion to bring his case the attention it deserves. Their recent meeting with Congressman Wilson marks another important step in that mission.
“Veterans like Gary gave everything for their country,” Rick said. “They deserve the care, recognition, and respect they’ve earned. I’ll keep fighting for that.”
Rick’s steadfast advocacy reflects his broader commitment to supporting veterans, ensuring their stories are heard, and their sacrifices never forgotten.
