Inspiring the Next Generation:
Rick Mantei Flies ROTC Cadets in His PT-17 Stearman
This past January, Rick Mantei had the privilege of introducing four ROTC cadets from Spring Valley High School to the thrill of aviation, offering them a once-in-a-lifetime flight experience in his PT-17 Stearman Biplane. More than just a flight, this experience allowed these young leaders to connect with aviation history, gain hands-on exposure to flying, and learn from a pilot who has dedicated his life to service.
A former F-4 Phantom and F-16 instructor pilot, Rick understands the importance of mentorship and real-world experience in shaping the next generation of military officers. As the cadets strapped into the open cockpit of the vintage biplane, they weren’t just taking to the skies—they were stepping into the footsteps of past aviators who trained in aircraft just like this. From takeoff to landing, each flight was an exhilarating introduction to the world of aviation, inspiring confidence and ambition for their future careers.
Rick’s commitment to giving back extends far beyond the cockpit. Whether through charity flights, community outreach, or veteran support, he continues to use his love of flying to uplift and inspire. By sharing his experience and passion with young cadets, he hopes to encourage the next generation of servicemen and women to pursue their dreams and embrace a future of leadership and service.
